July 14, 2009 - lil' laptop

Finally, got a laptop! It’s just an old one dating back to 1996, which dad got cheap from a flea market, but still – my very own laptop! He’s got a new one now, so I asked if I can have this one, and he agreed. Have to get a 3½ floppy drive installed on the other PC or I won’t be able to transfer anything, but I found one in the cabinet, so hopefully that will work. Yet another miracle is that this Word program comes with an English spellchecker! That’s even better standard than our computer has to offer.

So neat to be able to sit anywhere I like, writing stuff. Haven’t checked the battery capacity, but can drag a power cable half way cross the garden, so I’m virtually mobile! Felt like a flashback to 1994, when we got a decent Windows 95 comp. Nice keyboard, almost inaudible when tapping on the keys. Ordered a laptop bag some two years ago, from Australia I think, because it had a nifty reflective Ghostbusters logo. Comes well in handy now.

My parents visited and it went well. Got their old TV box, so now we can watch all channels again. The cats thought it to be most peculiar that guests were staying here, so they were running around, not being sure if they dared to be in the house. My two old cats lived with me back at my parent’s house, and they said it was nice to meet again. Viktor thought it was fun to be around, so thrilled that he started chasing his own tail on the porch. Little Tigger didn’t dare to be patted, but at least they caught a glimpse of him. He’s been through hard times in his short life, so the only two people he trusts is us.

My boyfriend uses the comp so much that I haven’t been able to update my blog, but now I hope to be able to update it more frequently. Most important, I can use the laptop to write stories. Maybe I can continue my novel, or write Real Ghostbusters stories. Hopefully I’ll get around to write a new novel of some sort. Would be nice to be a successful writer, so I’ll get some income. Kidding – I know I’m not that good. Still don’t know if I’ll be getting any money from August and on. Some woman called last week and asked
questions regarding my sickness retirement. She said the primary reason was listed as being my aspergers. Well, I’d jump for joy if that was a greater reason than the depression.

Spotting the Ghostbusters game in a store

Felt pretty okay in the morning, so I thought I should go to town. Ended up at the mall, a place I never visited before. It was a shock to find the Ghostbusters game for sale! There also was a big flag in the window, advertising it. Immediately phoned my boyfriend on the cell and asked why the heck the game was out, minding that I’ve ordered it months ago. He said the Xbox version wont be released until Fall, which I already knew. What I had spotted was the Playstation 3 version.

This I think is most unfair, so I declared I would buy the one in the store. He said we don’t have the consol. Can’t argue with that. I admit I can’t tell the consols apart, really, as I don’t use them. He also said that the American Xbox Ghostbusters game isn’t regional and that it works on our European version. He suggested I should buy it from overseas, but I figure I shouldn’t push my luck when it comes to expensive orders from a foreign country. Man, is this upsetting, or what…

Still felt alert when I got home, so I grabbed a sketch pad in order to make an illustration for my new Real Ghostbusters story. Yes, a miracle - managed to write a story! Had started one in January, but completed it the other day. Finally it was a thrill to write again. It even was fun to draw something. Just finished colored it in, but the art program was playing up… can’t make the “color burn” function work as it did in my old version. Some irritating jagged white lines appear when I use “paint bucket”. Quite boring to fix all white spots manually. Thought I should include the illustration in today’s blog. The story isn’t up, but I’ll add it to my site soon.

Another plane crash

There was another plane crash this morning. An airbus, just like a month ago. More French people involved… the plane plummeting into the ocean between African mainland and Madagascar. A kid has been found, bless him. Hope there will be more survivors. Speaking of plane crashes, the black boxes from that other plane crash will stop transmitting today. Too bad they didn’t find them. Not surprising, because the signal has to be picked up way down below surface. Watched the movie “Flight 93” last Sunday, and was delighted to find it being very good. It’s about the plane that crashed in a rural area at 9/11 2001. I recommend you to watch it.

Last night we visited my boyfriend’s parents, because the U21 soccer final aired and Germany won. Didn’t watch it, so his Mom and I were having a conversation in the backyard. She’s downhearted about us leaving the area, but she also understands it's necessary. Hope our house will sell, minding the plunge in the market.

Read through my old blog entries. Noticed that it’s focused on how much it focuses on how I’ve been treated in the Ghostbusters fandom. If I think of Ghostbusters, which I do when I make entries in this blog, I tend to bring that up. I’ll try not to. Point made already, so maybe I ought to just make an abbreviation, or something.

Drew a portrait of Winston the other day. Should do it more often, but, above abbreviation inserted. Feature that drawing in today’s blog. It’s been very hot lately, even making it to the all-time high in the area. For three days it’s been too warm to be outside. Seems like there will be a thunderstorm coming up. Last time it killed our computer monitor, a nice flatscreen. Too bad.
